Media Studies (Film Opening) Week 1 - Brainstorming

We couldn't meet each other today, because Ruguosier was away on a visa. And we have discussed this in chat.

Just a summary of our discussion today. 

Individual's rough ideas of production. 

  • “I was thinking.. for our final production, we could do a film opening about how a person changed as he/she came to know the love of Christ.. linking those to our PROMISE school values” (Ruguosier)
  • “Not so adventurous or active, but some kind of documentary/daily life-related genre... I wrote 'What could've been better? What could've you done to make this better?' Maybe we can have some kind of perfectionist teenager who starts their puberty and slowly gets off-track of their route.. choosing the topic as 'Regret'..” (John)
  • “I was thinking a protagonist losing someone he/she loved and getting depressed or something (Seo yun)”

We had some difficulties making our ideas together so we talked about colors and songs as well that we like. For me, I chose the color black and other songs. I tried to make any ideas even that is a simple color or a song. 


Anything isn't confirmed or selected yet. We only shared our ideas and thoughts today.

In today's class, I have suggested an idea, which I was thinking from yesterday's night, motivated by the genre textbook, genre with teen. I wanted to express our outcome as something that only can happen, feel, see, and do at our age. We can do our best as ourselves. 

I am not sure about my team members(because we didn't make a storyline yet), but I want all of us to act so that we can express our different emotions and personalities (This is just what I want). And Ruguosier was saying two main characters would act great as we are doing only a movie opening which is very short and detailed in short shots. I and John agreed. 

Also today, Ruguosier and John gave us some idea of the monologue while the movie opening is playing. Which is like, the background narrated before/after the conflict to start the background. 

At the last John gave us some idea about the characters, saying "'Calm but hasty Silent but noisy Seems okay? Nah, unstable. Peaceful face and rocking internal' I guess I want to depict myself to have some inner conflict within the character itself.. key word being ''UNSTABLE' but pretending not to'". Which seems great with our theme. 

I think we have arranged some ideas that each of us wants.

23/Mar We have finished making the shot list today. We confirmed most of the parts last time. But there were so many things that we missed, so me and John added some details. I was mostly writing the rough notes on the shot list document, and John made the texts into the clear form of the sentence. I wrote almost all of the audio part. Because we have not thought about the audio parts before. And John confirmed and edited the description part. And we both clarified and looked through all the notes that we wrote. Ruguosier was not able to come and work at the same time as me and John. So he confirmed and rechecked our work after my and John's editing. This is our shot list:

Media Studies (Film Opening) Week 6 - Storyline / Storyboard / Intention

27/Feb Today, we discussed how we will fit scenes between storyboard scenes 1 and 2. We had some ideas, which are: orange mart scene (a mart whose name is orange; let us just use the word orange for orange mart scenes): protagonist hanging out with her best friend after school setting (This can lead to the next scene 2 after this—going back home scene—street scene), as a brief idea. The protagonist and her best friend are in the classroom (year 12, which is our classroom), chilling together and watching Netflix or studying. cozy mood on the pillow of the scene. Some more scenes of the protagonist in the corridor just above the sports court, beside the computer lab Important point of today: we can take as many 'memory scenes' as possible, omit some, and add when we need them.
