Media Studies (Film Opening) Week 2 - Storyline / Audience

30/Jan

Today, we discussed the final genre and storyline. We finalized our genre today.

Genre- Slice of Life and Teen (CONFIRMED)

        - Historical fiction mood? (Christ)

Then after finalizing the genre, we came up with a rough draft for our storyline.

Storyline- The protagonist loses someone that he/she loved and he/she regrets something. And loses control over himself/herself and (hear a Christian church)/ or he/she finds the love of Christ and slowly recovers from his/her brokenness and….. (putting symbolistic things of God?)

Maybe there will be a symbolic object? (not confirmed) back & forth like a bookend so that the film opening can flow naturally & give the overall idea of how the film will be continued.

We also watched many film opening sequences and media studies as/a level film opening. We compared them and we made some ideas which are written in the previous paragraph. And got much interest in the videos that we watched.

That was all we did in Monday Media studies Class (1 class only)

01/Feb

Today we discussed the target audience of our final project. I suggested it would be nice if it's over 20-60. Because I wanted to make the audience reminisce about their past, as when they were high school students.

But as we discussed, we decided to set the target audience at 14. Because as I and my teammates were discussing, we thought it would be good if we make the audience high school students as well so that we can bring sympathy from them and guide them in a good way.

Also, the reason why I put the age until 60(huge number of audiences) is that I wanted student's parents to watch the film opening also and so that they can reminisce about their young age and lead their child in the right way(even adults who don't have their child, which means we can pre-advising them or pre-warning). I think it was very good that my teammates made changes in my opinion which is age.

If I was doing this project alone, I would never think that I should add teenagers to the target audience. But by my teammates' ideas, we could make the best choice which we put teenagers also in our target audience. I was very thankful that I have wonderful teammates.

Target Audience - 14-60

Intention - to make the audience learn and understand each other more, and reminisce.

02/Feb

Today, we discussed some storylines, what will we start and what will we add for the opening film. We couldn't discuss it in our voice because of some distributions.

I suggested them with an idea, saying 'What about the girl starting with a lot of friends and losing friends as time goes by and then she gets depressed... and finds god's love(overcomes her pains and be rejoice in God)'.

Because we have chosen the main character, the protagonist as a girl. So Ruguosier said that will be the extrovert character. And we decided to start the starting music as a loud sound effect or music. We discussed the character's age and gender, we decided the character was a teenage girl. But I also thought, in a different way, 'An introverted girl who has one and only friend losing her only one precious friend, and then the story flows. Ruguosier and John both liked the most with introverted girl.

John suggested the church bell ringing or flipping the hourglass scene. So that we can change the mood or go back the time. Therefore, I suggested, that we are using my ideas and John and Ruguosier's ideas both. For example, a protagonist girl lost her one and only friend, distressed by uneasy music and when it finished we can ring the church bell or flip the hourglass for changing the mood so that we can start another scene (changing the mood). Or from John's idea, I also thought it will also be great if we ring the bell or flip the hourglass on the scene which shows the recovering depression or distress at the last, which we can change the mood at the end positively...

And at the last, Ruguosier was saying, 'after she finds God's love, it's not the end. She goes through a hard time after losing her one and only close friend(not by death I presume) and when she comes to know God's love and how he forgave our sins and loved us even when we were sinners, she decides to forgive her friend and goes back and talk through things and they will be the close friends again in the end. So that we can make the end clear with God's love.

We discussed a lot of ideas today and tried to combine them as one.

03/Feb

Today, we couldn't discuss that much for our final production. We didn't have much time for the class because the previous class ended late.

We discussed where we were going to film the scenes the most; everyone agreed with the school campus location mostly, and some outside scenes may be included. Because as long as we are filming teenagers, I thought we would need the school scenes the most.

Also, we clarified some ideas that we discussed yesterday, which are only some raw plots. And we also worried about the target audience because we didn't really clarify the target audience. But we decided to still make our target audience 14–60. But we could change someday if our target audience is too extensive. And lastly, we decided to make the target audiences 17–18 years old (around the same age as us). Also because our film is about the life of a teenager.
