Media Studies (Film Opening) Week 4 - Scenes
15/Feb
Today we discussed so many things that we used almost 3 hours to figure out how to start the film. We flipped almost everything from what we were going to do. But the intention and purpose of our film did not change. We made scenes 1–8, which was a great procession for us. A short description of the storyline that we discuss is that:
1. Black screen with white text (title)
2. The protagonist and her friend are walking on the street.
3. A graphic match to change the location by flipping the camera to the side
4. Walk through the school corridor.
5. Classroom scene (one empty place that is the seat of the protagonist)
6. Closing book scene (graphic match to switch the location from school to house)
7. The protagonist walks to her bed after she finishes closing the book, which was used by the graphic match previously. It will be showing symbolic material, such as pictures and letters. (which conveys the symbolic meaning of the protagonist and her best friend) to show the protagonist and her friend are not friends anymore.
8. A sad and depressed protagonist will be shown (crossing her arm around her knees).
16/Feb
Yesterday, we made a storyboard together. Today we wrote the descriptions and details of each scene. such as:
Scene 1: Black background with white texts (title, credits)—dissolve to scene two
Scene 2: MC and her best friend (laughing and talking) walk towards the camera in the street. The camera flips—a graphic match to the next scene.
Scene 3: Corridor scene (camera walks towards the classroom; no characters will be seen)
Scene 4: When the door opens, every student turns back to look at who entered except the best friend. The camera pans towards the right side to show every character in the classroom.
Scene 5: The camera moves towards the main character’s seat, which is empty. An unknown person comes, turns over the book, and closes it. Only the hand is shown.
Scene 6: The screen dissolves, and the location changes to her house or room. Her messy table and her hands are shown.
Scene 7: The camera position is fixed, and the MC walks away from the camera towards her bed in a medium- to wide-angle shot.
Scene 8: Mc has bent her knees and is sitting in her bed. The camera moves upwards from the floor to the main character (from the bottom of her bed, floor? Upward to her bed).
Scene 2 will have some materials that represent the friendship between Mc and her best friend, such as friendship bracelets, rings, hats, manicures, etc.
These things will be used in scene 8; however, they will be damaged and laid on the ground along with the torn picture (this one will be the main representation of friendship). These details will add to the mood of depression among MCs and give hints about broken relationships. Explain further that this scene describes her mentality and current feelings linked to the situation.
