Media Studies (Film Opening) Week 5 - Storyboard / Storyline / Intention / Casting
20/Feb
Today we separate some parts, which are audience (John), intention (Ruguosier), and storyline (Seo Yun). Of course, everyone will share what they are writing, and everyone will participate in each section. But the person we chose is a person who got the most responsibility in their section.
We added details in Scene 2. We need a selfie stick for the equipment because we're going to let the protagonist and her friend take a selfie on the street, and the camera will record that part. So for the scene, the camera will move towards the characters and pass between them (separately or to represent their friendship). After the camera passes between them, it will flip (whip pan), and we'll change the location with the graphic cut.
This is what I wanted to show by using whip pan:
I have asked Carol (a classmate who reacted positively to being a character in our film and is also an extrovert) about being a character in our film. As long as she shows a positive reaction, we will consider casting her as the protagonist's best friend.
In scene 9, or at the end of the film, we decided to put a phone call or phone ringing scene. To create curiosity in the audience to watch the whole film.
22/Feb
Today, we discussed extra scenes that we will put in the past memories scene for the protagonist and her friend. We also brought back the hourglass ideas as part of the film opening, but there is still no clarity yet. We decided to make the waking up scene the last scene because it will be great if we make it the last scene, which will bring curiosity to the audience. and it will be great to start the actual film. For details of this scene, an hourglass will fall down as the phone call from the main character's friend becomes active. Vibration will push the hourglass.
We discussed a little bit of editing intention—our overall intention became the intention for the actual film. So we will write a separate intention for the film's opening.
23/Feb
Firstly, today we finalized the last scenes. (phone ringing, waking up, etc.) and edit details on it, continuing from yesterday's ideas. And we calculated and set the times for each scene so that we could see how many minutes we could use for the new scenes that we were going to make. So the total scene timing until now has been about 1 minute. After that, we clarified how the story flows. We could imagine the whole film opening briefly in our heads.
We also considered whether to put the dialogue in or not. But I think we'll use only some dialogue between the protagonist and her best friend.
According to the past memories scenes, it will be mostly at school (before scene 2). To show the characters are teens and to make the audience think about their past or recent school campus. So they could understand the story more easily.
