Media Studies (Film Opening) Week 12 - Sound
05/Apr
Today, me and John tried to work on soundtracks while Ruguosier was away traveling.
We couldn’t think of much other than things written in our shot list since we weren’t the ones to handle the editing process, so we decided to send a document to Ruguosier to help him while editing. We briefly went through the audio section written in the shot list, and we added some concise details to give some kind of idea of how each scene was depicted.
For the first two scenes, we will use one continuous sound and use L-cut in order to fuse two scenes together. Only after the ending of shot 2 will there be a bell ringing sound, indicating the location of the school.
In shot 3, we will use a simple and clean soundtrack (maybe) that helps the audience concentrate on Grace’s facial expression more, and the music will gradually get louder until it stops at the moment where it changes to the next scene.
The next scene is the supermarket scene; diegetic sound with natural sounds of the environment of a shopping market will be used. If we can use the diegetic sound, we will not use any other soundtrack. But if there are too many noises or unwanted noises, we will find better sound effects in the marketplace.
Silence in the background needs to be prioritized in the next scene, and we will likely use a silent and aircon wind sound in shots 5 to 6. This sound will gradually get smaller as the clock ticking sound becomes active; it will pace up continuously until Grace puts down her phone.
From shot 7, this scene will show the procession to the climax of our last scene. This scene will include a heartbeat-like beat, which should be deep and powerful so that it emphasizes the importance of this scene. And the tension of the beat will be faster, which will drag the scenes from 7 to 10. The reason why we are saying this is a 'heartbeat' sound is to show the tension and nervousness between the two characters, unless this is the first time they are meeting in person. (not just passing each other but facing each other)
For the last shot, we will end the shot with a black screen. Therefore, I have suggested using the piano strings and padding, which is most of the movie's climax, to maximize the mood. Also, there will be a gradual increase in volume until the camera passes two actresses and pushes into a wall until the black screen appears.
sound details for today for Ruguosier :
07/Apr
Today, me and John shared our blogs to see what we missed so far in details, and we edited some parts of our blogs. I had finished my blog at that time and searched for the free sound download website. And I have found Pixabay, which contains some sound effects that me and John were planning to find.
This is the sounds that I have found from Pixabay:

It was quite hard for me and John to contact Ruguosier at the same time. But it was thankful that Ruguosier is doing well even during his visa run. And he will be sharing the rough project with us soon.
